Long Way Home – bicycle journey of 2 young doctors

As you may know from prior posts, my son and I drove from Johannesburg to Kasane to start our Chobe safari.  North of Nata, we spent an interesting night at Elephant Sands, which has chalets and campsites ( a bit rustic for many Americans, but this adds to the adventure).  During that stay, we befriended 2 young British doctors (Rob and Polly).  They had served at a charity hospital in Durban and were bicycling their way to Rwanda to help at another hospital.  That’s right, riding bikes! Since they had been chased by ellies the night before and because the road north of Elephant Sands was soooo bad, we gave them a ride in our Hilux.  We also fed them some of our dried mangos and biltong – both were really appreciated.

In Kasane, we had a few drinks with them and gave them a little advice about the area.  Anyway ……cutting to the bottom line – they are having one heck of an adventure.  Their journal is a great read.  Additionally, there are links to charities they have identified if you want to help the causes of Southern Africa.  Here is a link to their life.

Rob and Polly – if you read this, congratulations on a fantastic trip.  I hope this generates some donations to your great causes.
